CLEVELAND, Ohio – The 2020 NFL year began at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, allowing teams to agree to contract terms with players on expiring contracts. Of course, most of the news began on Monday when teams and players could start talking deals.

And the Browns were busy.

They agreed to terms with 10 players via free agency and traded for another. They also released a veteran, tendered offers to restricted and exclusive rights free agents, and let others walk in free agency. Position groups have noticeable changes from what they looked like at the beginning of March.

The Browns’ roster will remain somewhat fluid all the way to through training camp. But now that the first wave of free agency has hit, let’s take a look at where the roster stands:

(NOTE: * denotes players acquired over the last week.)

QUARTERBACK

Authentic Garrett Gilbert Jersey; * Authentic Case Keenum Jersey; Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey.

What to know: The Browns addressed the need for backup quarterback by signing Keenum.

RUNNING BACK

Nick Chubb: Dontrell Hilliard (tendered); Kareem Hunt (tendered); * Andy Janovich (fullback); D’Ernest Johnson; Johnny Stanton (fullback).

What to know: Kevin Stefanski’s use of fullbacks was confirmed with the addition of Janovich. It’s expected that Hilliard and Hunt will sign their tenders and return in 2020.

WIDE RECEIVER

Odell Beckham Jr.; KhaDarel Hodge (tendered); Jarvis Landry; D.J. Montgomery; J’Mon Moore; * JoJo Natson; Damion Ratley; Taywan Taylor.

What to know: Natson was signed, but is likely to play a larger role as a kick returner than a wide receiver.

TIGHT END

Pharaoh Brown (tendered); Stephen Carlson; * Austin Hooper; David Njoku.

What to know: Hooper is one of the biggest free-agent acquisitions of the week, and is expected to pair with Njoku in Stefanski’s multiple-TE formations.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Center – JC Tretter; Willie Wright.

Guard – Joel Bitonio; Drew Forbes; Colby Gossett; Malcom Pridgeon; Wyatt Teller.

Tackle – * Jack Conklin; Chris Hubbard; Kendall Lamm.

What to know: Conklin was the top right tackle on the market, and will replace Hubbard. The Browns have yet to address left tackle or right guard this offseason.

DEFENSIVE END

Myles Garrett; Porter Gustin; Robert McCray; Chad Thomas; Olivier Vernon; Trevon Young.

What to know: The Browns haven’t made any changes to their edge rushers. That includes Vernon, who is due to make $15.5 million this season.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE

Authentic Eli Ankou Jersey; * Authentic Andrew Billings Jersey; Authentic Brandin Bryant Jersey; Authentic Daniel Ekuale Jersey; Authentic Larry Ogunjobi Jersey; Authentic Sheldon Richardson Jersey; Authentic Justin Zimmer Jersey.

What to know: The Browns signed Billings, who was a starter with the Bengals, raising the potential of a three-man rotation with Richardson and Ogunjobi on the interior of the line.

LINEBACKER

Tae Davis; * B.J. Goodson; Jermaine Grace; Willie Harvey; Montrel Meander; Sione Takitaki; Mack Wilson.

What to know: The Browns were thin on experience at linebacker, so they signed Goodson, a middle linebacker who has started 29 of his last 37 games.

CORNERBACK

Robert Jackson; * Kevin Johnson; Donnie Lewis Jr.; Terrance Mitchell; * Donovan Olumba; Tavierre Thomas; Denzel Ward; Greedy Williams.

What to know: Johnson has the potential to take over as slot corner, while Olumba will likely be battling for a roster spot.

Authentic Nike Browns Case Keenum Jersey 2020 For Sale

The Cleveland Browns were extremely active during the first days of free agency, as they made several signings. The Browns came to agreements with key offensive players on the first day of the legal tampering period, including the signing of Authentic Case Keenum Jersey.

The addition of Keenum gave the Browns a veteran presence in the quarterback room to help mentor the two other quarterbacks on Cleveland’s roster, Authentic Baker Mayfield Jersey and Authentic Garrett Gilbert Jersey. Keenum understood what his role would be, and he welcomed the opportunity with the Browns.

His presence in the meeting rooms will be helpful for the other Browns quarterbacks because Keenum has previous experience with head coach, and potential play-caller, Kevin Stefanski. Stefanski was Keenum’s quarterback coach in 2017, which was Keenum’s best season of career.

With his starting experience, Keenum will be helpful in preparing Mayfield prior to games and getting the game plan in order. Keenum has also proven to be a reliable game manager, which is what the Browns needed in case Mayfield is forced to miss snaps.

Keenum’s addition is already paying off for the Browns, even before the team takes the field for their first workout of 2020. Keenum’s presence on the roster will be important because the Browns will not be able to take the practice field together for what will likely be an extended period.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and around the world, the NFL has indefinitely suspended the offseason workout programs and forced teams to shut down their facilities for the time being. This is going to cause the coaching staff’s to not have an opportunity to work hands-on with their players for a while.

This is important for the Browns because Stefanski and the offensive coaching staff will be installing a new offensive system. Not being able to work with the players directly could create some issues for the players, including Mayfield.

However, since Keenum has some familiarity with Stefanski and his verbiage, Mayfield will have some extra help when it comes to understanding the offense. Keenum said Mayfield reached out to him immediately after reports of his signing, so they are quickly building a relationship.

Although it may not be any different with hands-on communication, Keenum would be able to give his first-hand experience of working with Stefanski and could help any questions from Mayfield. It may have only been a season and not completely Stefanski’s offense, but Keenum spending a season with Stefanski will give Mayfield extra knowledge to lean on.

The longer the NFL suspends team activities during the world health crisis, the more important Keenum’s signing becomes for Mayfield and the offense. It may not have been the biggest move for the Browns this offseason, but Keenum’s signing could emerge as one of the key additions for the 2020 season.

The Cleveland Browns were regularly in the headlines during the offseason and ESPN thinks it was the best offseason in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns will be the most hyped team during the 2019 season, and it will be for good reason. With the talent the team has built up, they are in great position to break their 16-year playoff drought.

General manager John Dorsey quickly used the assets given to him last offseason to rapidly add talent, and it turned into Cleveland’s best season since 2014. But Dorsey took it a step further this offseason and practically went all in on the next two or three seasons.

Dorsey saw the opportunity in front of him with the team having a franchise quarterback on a rookie deal as well as a top pass rusher on a rookie deal. So Dorsey used that cap space to plug the remaining holes on the roster.

And the way Dorsey and the rest of the Browns front office approached this offseason received national praise. ESPN graded every team’s offseason and gave the Browns the only elite grade for their offseason.

The Browns placed a priority on surrounding budding franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield with more weapons, connecting on the blockbuster trade for All-Pro wideout Odell Beckham Jr. from the New York Giants. GM John Dorsey also took a chance by signing running back Kareem Hunt, who could make a significant impact down the stretch after he serves an eight-game suspension. They also wanted to provide their defensive cornerstone, end Myles Garrett, with additional help up front. – Jake Trotter, ESPN

With the Browns needing help on the defensive line, Cleveland added Sheldon Richardson and Olivier Vernon. Not only can they both perform at a high level, but they will also help create more opportunities for Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi.

The Browns were also able to capitalize during the 2019 NFL Draft, drafting Greedy Williams, who was arguably the top cornerback available in the class. And Cleveland did so without a first-round selection and their first selection being in the middle of the second round.

But the obvious move that took Cleveland’s offseason over the top was trading for Odell Beckham Jr. while not giving up too much value in return. The Browns had to give up the 17th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, but was still able to land a first-round talent without it.

Trotter believes the biggest question mark is if Freddie Kitchens will be able to handle the expectations surrounding the team as a first-time head coach. And not only are there a lot of expectations, but Cleveland also has a lot of big personalities in the locker room that Kitchens will have to keep in check.

The Browns offseason being graded as the best in the league will add just another expectation to Cleveland this season. The upcoming season will be the most important season for Cleveland since the team returned in 1999, and it is a question of if the talent on paper will result into wins for the Browns.
